The Advice That’s Keeping You Stuck

Most of the “wisdom” you were handed as a kid is absolute garbage. You repeat these clichés hoping they’ll magically fix your life, but they’re usually just bandaids on bullet wounds. It’s time to stop comforting yourself with lies and start looking at reality.

The Deal

  1. Don’t go to bed angry. This is a relationship wrecker. Rational thoughts don’t come from angry minds, and fighting at 3 AM is just sleep deprivation masquerading as communication. Sometimes, a snack and a nap are the only things that will actually calm things down. Go to sleep, reset your brain, and handle it when you’re human again.

  2. Everything happens for a reason. Stop trying to find a divine lesson in a random tragedy or a stroke of bad luck. Sometimes the reason is just chance, and sometimes the reason is that you made a poor decision. Accept it and move on.

  3. Work for free to “get your name out there.” All this does is teach people that your skills have zero value. When I was nineteen, I handed a client a nervous invoice, and he told me to double it because I was insulting myself. That man taught me more in five seconds than a year of free gigs ever could. Price your work like you mean it.

  4. Chase your passion. Chase your talent instead. Use the money you make from your talent to fund your passions as hobbies. If you turn your passion into a job, you’ll just learn to resent the deadlines and the clients.

  5. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. No, it doesn’t. Trauma is terrible for you, and it often leaves you with PTSD and scars that make life harder, not easier. Stop romanticizing suffering.

  6. Blood is thicker than water. This quote is weaponized to keep you trapped around abusive people. It is perfectly fine to cut family members loose and let them become people you are just related to. You don’t owe anyone absolution just because you share DNA.

  7. Pain is weakness leaving the body. Pain is your body telling you that something is wrong. Ignoring it isn’t toughness; it’s stupidity. Listen to the warning signs before you break something you can’t fix.

  8. Hard work always pays off. Direction matters way more than effort. You can work incredibly hard digging a hole in the wrong direction, and all you’ll get is a deep hole. Work smart, then work hard.

  9. Once a cheater, always a cheater. People hate hearing this, but change is constant. If someone is haunted by their worst mistake and has genuinely raised the bar on their own values, they deserve the chance to show they aren’t the same person. Don’t write off growth just because it’s easier to hold a grudge.

  10. Love comes when you aren’t looking. You aren’t going to find a partner by sitting on your couch waiting for destiny to knock on the door. You have to put yourself out there. Love requires action, not just passive hoping.

Do This

Stop repeating these empty phrases and start thinking for yourself.

Real maturity isn’t about having all the answers; it’s about questioning the ones you were given as a kid. The world doesn’t care about your comfort zone, so stop taking advice that keeps you in it.
